Growing up as a homeschooler who did not like to study, it was quite a change from me growing up to be a passionate Latinist. My love for learning Latin began when, in my early twenties, I began to love literature. I realized that, if I learned Latin, I would be drawing directly from the source from which come many of our key root words.

About our name (de nomine nostro)
When I chose the name Classical Cognates, it was upon learning that Latin is based on patterns and common roots. The word cognate (cognātus) literally means “related by birth”. In a way, those of us who speak English, Spanish, Italian, or others, are actively using Latin everyday. Though through by the public eye, Latin is considered to be a “dead language”, actually, bene valet , it is quite well.
