Classical Cognates is where we teach the importance of the Latin language in our modern world. You may ask, WHY is Latin still import today? To begin with, about 60% of our vocabulary in English come from Latin. Another reason Latin is so useful is that just ONE Latin root may accountable for hundreds of English words.
Here at Classical Cognates, our goal is to follow an intuitive learning strategy that makes learning Latin not only enjoyable, but also easier to understand. Unlike many modern Latin classes, which bog students down with grammar and translation, you will learn Latin as it really is; a language that was, (and is), of real humans, with real emotions, and a story to tell. You will not only learn to communicate orally using Latin, but you will also learn to read classical texts. Whether you are seeking wisdom on life through Seneca, or reading Caesar’s Gallic Wars, you shall be the interpreter.

When I chose the name Classical Cognates, it was upon learning that Latin is based on patterns and common roots. The word cognate (cognātus) literally means “related by birth” or "born together". In a way, those of us who speak English, Spanish, Italian, or others, are actively using Latin everyday. As soon as we begin examining vocabulary, we can quickly see how thousands of words are connected through these cognates. By understanding Latin we will gain a much better command of the English language.
